With over 27 million business cards printed daily, not even a technology-dominated world can dent the popularity of the humble business card.
But what are the all important stats behind the business card? They may surprise you!
Business cards can cost anywhere between £10 to £500, with the average spend being £194. At Minuteman Press Norwich, we offer 100 single sided full colour cards for just £18 plus VAT, and 100 double sided full colour cards for just £25 plus VAT. That’s a great price, and much cheaper than the world’s most expensive business card. The Black Astrum Signature Card—made of Swiss metal and studded in 30 carats worth of diamonds—rakes in at an incredible $1,500 per card!
As we mentioned before, 27 million business cards are printed per day. Therefore, just under 10 billion business cards are printed every year! However, not many these cards will survive: 88% are tossed out within the week. A survey found 69% of people throw the business card away because they don’t currently need your service. Another reason could be that they feel uninspired by its design. This is why its incredibly important to have a quality business card, with an eye-catching design and clear, concise information.
How can you create a great first impression?
72% of people judge your company by your card. If the design is too cluttered, they will find it hard to find the relevant details and throw it away: you want to strike the right balance between readability, and comprehension. Furthermore, 39% of people won’t do business with you if your card is cheap looking. It suggests a lack of professionalism, or perhaps a lack of investment in your business.
Research also shows potential clients are 10 times more likely to hold onto coloured cards than white cards. Again, this reinforces the idea of you investing in your business. It’s not always about black vs white designs though. Designers should outside the box to create innovative designs. For example, heavier weight card stock, embossing, metallic accents, layered elements or die-cut designs.
A study by Statisticbrain.com found that sales increase by 2.5% for every 2000 cards that get passed out. While this may seem like a small amount, it makes all the difference when you break down the maths. If you are a small business earning £100,000 annually, 2.5% of your earnings is £2500. You will spend well under £100 on your business cards, so you can clearly see this is a fantastic return on investment!
