In 2017, Whistl surveyed 1,106 members of the British public about impulse purchases.
91% of participants admitted they made impulse purchases every month, with the two biggest culprits being clothing (56%) and food and drink (49%). Supermarkets were our biggest weakness, with 59% of Brits straying from their shopping list while browsing the aisles. Online shopping was little better: 54% of respondents admitted to impulse buys on e-commerce sites, such as Amazon and eBay.
Overall, we Brits spend a shocking £3.14 billion per month on impulse buys. That’s roughly £48 per person!
